Coronavirus cases across the world surpassed two million, according to Johns Hopkins University's tally while the number of Covid-19 infected people in India has climbed to 9,352 and the death has touched 324, according to latest figures released by the Union ministry of health on Monday evening. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called the coronavirus disease, which has flu like symptoms, 10 times more deadly than swine flu, also called H1N1, which caused a global pandemic in 2009.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the nation at 10 amTuesday, which is the last day of the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced earlier. He is expected to outline the decision on lockdown given the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country. Ahead of Modi’s speech, several states including Telangana, Maharahstra, Odisha and West Bengal have already extended the lockdown till April 30 to break the chain of Covid-19 infections in the country.
With coronavirus cases on the rise, many countries across the world have also extended their lockdown period.

A man, who recently recovered from the coronavirus disease, was forced to put his house on sale in Madhya Pradesh as his neighbours harassed him roaming outside his house earlier following his return, police said. "I have been working outside for the past eight-nine years. Upon learning of the Covid-19 pandemic, I returned to India on March 18, on 19th I went to the hospital and tests were conducted on March 21 which showed that I was borderline positive for Covid-19. Following the treatment, my results came out negative and I was released from the hospital," Deepak Sharma told ANI.

Meghalaya reports first Covid-19 case
The first Covid-19 case in Meghalaya was reported on Sunday, following which the government imposed a 48-hour curfew in Shillong on Monday, said Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, according to news agency ANI.
"This situation has come despite all the measures being taken by the government. In light of this, I urge citizens not to panic. We are closely monitoring the situation and we are prepared to deal with it. We have imposed complete curfew in Shillong for the next 48 hours," he was quoted as saying.

Over 9,000 apply for financial aid to public vehicle drivers in Delhi
In order to deal with the hardship caused by the lockdown in in place to check the spread of Covid-19, the Delhi government has announced one-time financial assistance of5,000 for public vehicle drivers, who have a valid driving licence and badge.
The registration process began on Monday and the government has already received 9,023 applications.

France extends nationwide lockdown till May 11
In an address to the nation, French president Emmanuel Macron announced the extension of the lockdown period till May 11 and said the coronavirus epidemic was "beginning to steady... (and) hope is returning".
"May 11 will be the start of a new phase. It will be progressive and the rules can be adapted according to our results," he was quoted as saying by news agency AFP.

Though the Prime Minister's final word is awaited, chief ministers of many states after a video conference on Saturday said that Modi agreed with them on the need to extend the lockdown to curb the spread of the novel disease.
